Rookie USA uses an LED lighting solution from Osram Opto Semiconductors and Phoster Industries

Rookie USA, a premium brand specializing in innovative sportswear for children, is equipping its first retail location in New York City with a high-quality LED lighting solution: Installed inside the fixtures from Canadian-based Phoster Industries are energy-efficient Golden Dragon Plus LEDs from German LED-specialist Osram Opto Semiconductors. The lighting concept developed by the two companies combines ideal lighting for the retail area with enormous cost savings of up to 85 percent annually compared to standard incandescent lamps.

LEDs are the perfect light source for store lighting: Thanks to their natural color rendering properties, their directed light and the availability of different tones of white light, LEDs fulfill all the varying requirements for illuminating clothing, food and other products. As very bright but higly energy-efficient point-light sources, LEDs additionally are characterized by their extraordinarly long rated lamp life, which reduces maintenance and keeps lamp replacement to a minimum.

The LED lighting used at Rookie USA comprises Phoster LED High Bay Replacement luminaires and Phoster PAR30 LED lamps with Golden Dragon Plus LEDs from Osram Opto Semiconductors inside. The Golden Dragon Plus LEDs are durable and boast a long rated life of more than 50,000 hours, as well as a good color rendering index (CRI) of 85. They can be used in diverse applications, including architectural and room lighting, and retrofit solutions, meaning the replacement of conventional light bulbs. "Integrating our LEDs in the luminaire systems from Phoster Industries creates perfect lighting solutions that are particularly suited to illuminating boutiques, supermarkets and other stores," says Ivo Ivanovski, Marketing Manager in General Lighting at Osram Opto Semiconductors.

Rookie USA chose LED lighting for its first store for many reasons: Long-term cost efficiency, less frequent lamp replacement, less heat emission resulting in less HVAC expenditure, and the design. "The design of the luminaires for general lighting was very important to us, because the space is an open plan. Additionally, the luminaries had to be functional but also unique. Phoster Industries was the vendor that could provide everything we were looking for," Rookie explained.

Great potential for saving energy and costs

Thanks to its tremendous energy efficiency over standard incandescent lamps, the LED solution will help to reduce annual energy costs by up to 85 percent. The Phoster lamps have a rated lamp life of about 50,000 hours, which almost makes lamp replacement unnecessary, another factor contributing to cutting costs. "By electing to use LEDs for the lighting at its new store, Rookie USA has made a pioneering move in terms of the many advantages of these tiny diodes," says Douglas Mendelman, Director of Business Development at Phoster Industries. "The combination of the Golden Dragon Plus LEDs from Osram and our luminaire systems creates a pleasant atmosphere inside the new store, makes products look their best and lowers energy and maintenace costs at the same time." Osram Opto Semiconductors and Phoster Industries have already collaborated successfully in the field of store lighting. The joint lighting solution therefore was Rookie USA's first choice when it came to putting its products in the best possible light.
